Argentina’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022-winning star Lionel Messi has commissioned gold iPhones for every member of his team and support staff who were part of the historic win over France in the final.
According to reports, the 24-carat devices, worth £175,000, have the player’s names, numbers and the Argentinian logo engraved on them.
Messi, who was named the FIFA Best Men’s Player for 2022 earlier this week, teamed up with iDesign Gold for the initiative.
The company posted about the initiative on its Instagram page and said: “The Argentina Squad Edition iPhone 14 for winning the World Cup 2022. 35 gold iPhone 14 created for the Argentina squad and staff & delivered to @leomessi.”
“It was an honour to deliver 35 gold iPhone 14 to @leomessi for his team mates & staff as a gift for winning the World Cup final,” another post said, with an accompanying image of Messi with iDesign Gold CEO Ben Lyons.
A report in The Sun quoted Lyons: “Lionel is not only the Goat but he’s one of iDesign Gold’s most loyal customers and got in touch with us a couple of months after the World Cup final. He said he wanted a special gift for all the players and staff to celebrate the amazing win but didn’t want the usual gift of watches.
“So, I suggested gold iPhones inscribed with their names and he loved the idea.”
